Liv Little, south London curator, audio producer, model, filmmaker and journalist, responded to underrepresentation and a lack of diversity, while studying at Bristol University, by founding gal-dem - an online and print magazine written exclusively by women of colour.
As Editor-in-Chief, Little has used her publication to discuss topics including women seeking asylum, women breaking down barriers in politics and women in art. In an aim to empower and support the creative work of young women of colour, Little’s gal-dem also celebrates feminism and discusses race and cultural differences through talks, events and workshops. As a result of her independent success and the achievements of her budding media venture, Little caught the attention of British Vogue editor Edward Enninful who included her in the February issue of the fashion magazine as part of its ‘New Suffragettes’ feature, in which she was celebrated as one of seven ‘influential females fighting to empower women in the battle for equality’.
